Sometimes a new piece comes about at the most unexpected moments. When my son Robby made a drawing for his grandmother and left his pencil with the shavings on the table, I knew right away: this is what I want to make. What seems simple ultimately took a year and a half to develop. I tested, adjusted, and started over countless times. A single ceramic pencil takes over two months to make, and for the entire series, the kiln was fired for a total of 56 days. Of course, the pencil shavings couldn’t be left out either. It’s precisely those everyday details that inspire me. I love taking a fresh look at ordinary objects and giving them a whole new life.
